Dual degree transfer guidelines

Intra-University transfers

You don't need to apply in advance for the dual degree program. Just take the appropriate pre-engineering courses and apply using a special application available from your pre-engineering advisor.

Selection is based on the successful completion of appropriate courses and the calculation of a “technical grade point average” using grades in calculus, chemistry, computer science, calculus-based physics, and calculus-based statistics. If a specific course has been repeated, only the second grade is used in the “technical GPA” for the purpose of admission.

Minimum technical GPA for admission

Aerospace engineering and mechanics 2.6
Bio-based products engineering 2.5
Biomedical engineering 2.8
Biosystems and agricultural engineering 2.6
Chemical engineering 2.8
Civil engineering 2.5
Computer engineering 2.6
Electrical engineering 2.6
Geological engineering 2.6
Materials science and engineering 2.5
Mechanical engineering 2.8

English composition

One course for all majors. Additional writing-intensive courses will be taken after admission to IT.

Liberal education requirement

Dual degree students are not required to take any liberal education courses while in IT. The University's requirement is satisfied by the student's completion of requirements for the first college.

Tuition

Dual degree students who reside outside of Minnesota and who do not quality for reciprocity (including international students) qualify for a special tuition rate equal to 150 percent of resident tuition.
