Dual degree program
Combine the richness
of a traditional liberal
arts education with technological
skills. Earn a bachelor
of arts degree from a participating
college and a bachelor of
engineering degree or master
of science degree from the
University of Minnesota.
Areas of study
Plan I: B.A./B.S.
Approximately five years: Complete three
years of study—including
a comprehensive program
of liberal education requirements
and take requisite pre-engineering
courses in math and science—at
a four-year college, then
transfer to the Institute of Technology.
Under Plan I, you may also
complete a four-year degree
at your first college before
transferring to IT.
Taking one or more courses in the summer can minimize the length of time
required to finish the engineering degree.
Dual degree transfer guidelines
Plan II: B.A./M.S.
Six years: Pursue a master
of science degree in engineering
at the University after
completing a bachelor's
degree in mathematics or
science at a participating
college. Typically, students
must take some undergraduate
engineering courses at the
University; the total number
of courses varies by department
and specialty area. Students
can usually complete the
master's degree in two
years.
Apply for admission to the Graduate
School during your senior year. The application deadline
is April 1, but you should apply between November and January
if you wish to receive priority consideration for financial
aid. Because admission requirements vary among engineering
programs, Plan II applicants cannot be guaranteed admission
to the University. You're invited to discuss your prospects
with an academic advisor in the IT Student Services Office.
For more information contact your pre-engineering advisor
or an prospective representative at a participating school.
You don't need to select one of the degree plans until you
formally apply to IT or to the Graduate School.
