The Institute of Technology celebrates National Engineers Week

The Institute of Technology will participate in National Engineers Week 2007 Feb. 18-24, with a variety of activities scheduled on campus and in the community. The goal of National Engineers Week is to raise awareness about the engineering profession and its impact on our society.

Student activities
The Institute of Technology will host engineering-related events for students on Fri., Feb. 23, at 3-180 Electical Engineering/Computer Science Building:

11 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.: Lunch
11 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Student group booths*
12:10 p.m. – 12:15 p.m.: Welcome from Institute of Technology Dean Steven Crouch
12:15 p.m. – 12:45 p.m.: Professor Jim Leger discusses engineering majors
12:45 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.: Student panel of juniors, seniors, and recent alumni in engineering majors discuss their experiences, give tips for succeeding in engineering programs, and answer questions from the audience.

Outreach activity
Academic Programs for Excellence in Engineering and Science (APEXES) also will host an event for National Engineers Week. Girls in the fifth and sixth grade from Harvest Prep Charter School in Minneapolis will be visiting campus from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. to talk with female professors for lunch and participate in hands-on engineering projects with undergraduate and graduate students.

Alumni activity
The Institute of Technology Alumni Society will celebrate the week on Sat., Feb. 24, with TechFest 2007, a free event for the whole family focused on electrical engineering and held at The Works museum in Edina, Minn.
