To sustain a flourishing program of scholarship and research, IT
must maintain the resources necessary to keep pace with technology,
develop new programs, and meet unforeseen needs.
State-of-the-art research and teaching facilities help attract
the finest faculty and the most promising students. By giving them
with the tools to develop new teaching methods, solve old problems,
and explore emerging fields, we unleash their creativity and productivity.
In addition to providing modern classrooms and laboratories, we
must maintain a rich, diverse, and up-to-date collection of print
and electronic resources in our science and engineering library.
A $12 million Institute of Technology Endowment to support investments
in library resources, technology, infrastructure, and equipment
will help keep our programs at the leading edge.
Moreover, with the benefit of a Dean's Initiatives Fund, IT will
have the resources and flexibility to react quickly and effectively
to new opportunities and challenges. These funds may be used to
develop an innovative new course, seed a promising research effort,
bring an eminent scholar or scientist to campus, or enable an undergraduate
to take advantage of an unexpected research opportunity. By enabling
us to seize new and frequently unforeseen opportunities like these,
gifts to the Dean's Initiatives Fund yield tremendous academic benefits.
Likewise, funds for departmental initiatives will give IT the ability
to meet department-specific needs. Departments will have the resources
to support a special symposium, replace a piece of outdated equipment,
sponsor a visiting lecturer, or respond quickly to unique research
opportunities.
Through these endowments, your support will ensure our ability
to adapt to the challenges of the twenty-first century and excel
in our mission of education, research, and outreach.
